Seamsee
2020
Self-initiated
Seamsee or Siumsee is a fortune-telling method originated in China (also known as Kau Cim in Chinese). It is widely used in temples in Thailand, although the procedure is more simplified than the original Chinese method.
It involves shaking a container carrying numbered bamboo sticks until one of the stick falls out. The number that is on the stick corresponds to fortune paper that has the same number on it.
If it has a good meaning, people usually bring the paper home with them. If it is a bad reading, the paper is usually discarded.
This project is made after observing how many sheets of seamsee papers are being thrown away at one temple in Bangkok, or how people get disappointed because their fortune papers are out of stock after spending quite a time deliberately shaking the containers.
